Darren White Launches New TV Ad: “Trolley” (Albuquerque, New Mexico) – Today, the Darren White for Congress campaign released its fourth commercial of the general election cycle, entitled, “Trolley.” The ad highlights Martin Heinrich’s push to extend the City of Albuquerque's quarter-cent transportation tax for 10 years – without voter approval – to pay for a $270 million trolley car that would service his own Nob Hill neighborhood. When the transportation tax was first passed in the nineties, voters were promised it was temporary and would sunset in 10 years. But Martin Heinrich tried to extend the tax without voter approval. This led to weeks of public and media criticism, which ultimately forced Heinrich to back off his plan to increase taxes without voter approval to fund the trolley car. [More]
Heinrich campaign attempts to clarify ‘lobbyist’ flap ALBUQUERQUE — The war of words and associations in the hotly contested 1st Congressional District shows no sign of slowing down less than a month before Election Day. Even as Democratic nominee Martin Heinrich is riding high in the polls and national sources of funding for his Republican opponent Darren White appear to be drying up, Heinrich hasn’t been able to disprove one of White’s main lines of attack: that Heinrich worked as a lobbyist but never registered as one, which may have constituted a violation of state or federal law. Two Heinrich campaign memos recently shared with NMI appear to be incomplete and include shifting documentation of the candidate’s past work.
